FAQ

Common questions, direct answers

Everything you need to know about using the builder, exporting resumes, and optimizing for ATS. If you don't see your question here, check the contact page.

Is A4CV actually free to use?

Yes. There's no paywall, no trial, and no upgrade prompt. The builder is free and will stay free.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Your resume is stored locally in your browser (via localStorage). There's no server upload and no login system.

Where is my resume data stored?

Your resume is stored in your browser's localStorage. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly export or share it.

Can I access my resume from a different device?

Not automatically. Since data is stored locally, you'll need to export your resume as JSON from one device and import it on another.

What export options are available?

You can print to PDF via your browser (Cmd+P / Ctrl+P), export as PNG, or export as JSON for portability.

Are the templates ATS-friendly?

Yes. All templates use simple structure (no complex tables or multi-column text blocks) and semantic HTML to ensure ATS systems can parse reliably.

Can I customize colors and fonts?

Yes. The builder includes font selection and accent color presets. You can also adjust spacing and layout via template selection.

Can I switch templates without losing my content?

Yes. All templates are built from the same data schema, so switching layouts preserves your content.

Should I add a photo to my resume?

It depends on your region and industry. In the US, photos are generally discouraged due to bias concerns. In Europe and some other regions, photos are more common.

Which browsers are supported?

A4CV works best in modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge (latest versions). Print-to-PDF quality is best in Chrome.

Can I use A4CV on mobile?

Yes, but the experience is optimized for desktop. On mobile, you can edit or preview (not both simultaneously).

What happens if I clear my browser data?

Your resume will be lost. Export your resume as JSON regularly to keep a backup.

Is A4CV open source?

Not yet, but I'm considering it. If there's interest, I may open-source the codebase in the future.

Can I use my resume for commercial purposes?

Yes. The resume you create is yours. Use it however you like.

What is an ATS checker?

An ATS checker is a tool that helps job seekers optimize their resumes for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). It analyzes your resume and provides feedback on how to improve it for better chances of passing through ATS filters.
